We repair and rebuild all types of brick, natural stone, block, cultured stone, and stucco on both residential and commercial
properties
Tuck Pointing
Masonry work that is exposed to extreme temperature and moisture
will develop cracks where water will penetrate and eventually loosen the bricks. We use the highest strength mortar and will
work to match the existing mortar color.
Crown and Cap Repair
The crown can also develop
cracks that will compromise the strength of
a masonry chimney. When resealing
a damaged crown, we use
a special material that was
formulated to ensure proper repair of damaged crowns. This material will bond to the old chimney crown
Chimney Rebuilds
Chimney rebuilds include the tearing down and rebuilding of an existing chimney.
Most chimneys fall under the following categories of damage:
- Minor rebuild: small chimneys or
only the top few courses of a large chimney.
- Tear-down to roofline: Substantial
brick, stone, and or mortar
deterioration has eliminated the possibility of tuck-pointing. The chimney is torn down to the flashing area near the roofline
and rebuilt usually with new brick or stone and always with new mortar.
- Total rebuild: Complete tear
down of the outer layer of brick or stone on a chimney. In most instances the firebox, hearth and smoke chamber do not have
to be removed. Total rebuilds are necessary when a chimney is leaning, has severe mortar deterioration or severe spalling.
Spalling
Repairs
Spalling refers to the scaling, pealing and/or flaking away of the brick or stone face. Some bricks
or stone are more prone to spalling than others. It occurs when water in the brick or stone freezes and expands. In doing
so, the pressure forces the face of the brick or stone to "pop" off. If only a few bricks or stones have spalled,
they can be cut out and replaced.
However, brick replacement and masonry water-sealers provide minimal deterrence
once the damage begins. The best way to stop spalling is to rebuild with new brick.
Clay Flue Tile
Repair
The flue tiles of the chimney flue can become cracked and/or spalled or off-center causing a disruption
in ventilation of the smoke. Our crews
can replace the flue with
a lifetime warranty, stainless steel flue to ensure proper ventilation.
Rebuild Fireplaces
Water damage resulting from a missing chimney cap is all too common. We remedy this situation by reconstructing the walls
of fireplaces, returning them to their original or more efficient pristine condition.
Smoke Chamber Repair
The area above the masonry
fireplace damper is know as the "smoke chamber". Sometimes this area has voids or offset bricks that make proper
draft a problem. We can repair these areas by parging (smoothing) the entire smoke chamber.
